*YCLSA condemns the continuous exploitation of the poor by the National
lottery*

*14 September 2009*

The Young communist league of South Africa (UFasimba) would like to express
its utter disgust with the national lottery on finding new ways to exploit
and steal from the poor. The National lottery has now launched the Power
ball game, over and above the so called games it currently offers. The
actual practise of gambling is a conniving method to con the poor in giving
them false hope and feeding off their dreams to alleviate themselves from
the scourges of poverty.

The country is facing a recession and it has hit hard on the working class
and the poor of our country, but yet the National lottery fails to be
insensitive towards such ailing conditions that face the majority of South
Africans. This is a clear indication of their perverse greed and their
perpetual ambition of profit maximisation.

The government should urgently curb such practises and safe guard the
well-being of the poor. The National lottery has ensured that their games
are easily accessible in poor communities. It continues to feed off the
dreams of those that still find themselves in poverty stricken
circumstances.

The YCLSA urges the National lottery to abandon its plans of launching this
Powerball” game and stop exploiting our people. The ratio between the money
it has made thus far and the injection of money towards social spending is
not proportionate.
