Dear Editor.

I hereby respond (hoping you will equally publish this in the spirit of open debate) to a letter by Dave entitled "Why is a communist party?"

Without getting to much into what does communism and socialism mean and what are the differences between the two usually (sub)consciously confused terms, I hereby seek not to provide facts (since visiting any urban or rural area or walking down any city will provide you with practical facts) as to why socialism and communism (which even the bible speaks about thou in a distorted form) is the only solution. However mine is to pose the same (albeit slightly different) questions to Dave as he did.

Dave, why do we have (neo)liberal and conservative part's whereas reality on the ground suggest that their ideologies are self-contradictory, double-tongued and have brought more misery especially for the same poor masses that you try to speak about?

Why cannot we try another alternative economic and political systems since the very same capitalism, with its mypocal philosophy of the invisible hand as the solution to its own inherent crisis, has produced recession after recession?

By the way, for us the poor people or rather the dispossessed or "wretched of the earth", capitalism means we are in continous recession?

Why, in the light of stats after stats proving that the gap between the haves and have nots continue to widen/increase, do we stil believe that capitalism and neo-liberalism are relevant and socialism and ultimately communism is irrelevant?

Why, even after the self-annointed so-called vanguard of democracy (i.e. America) ironically used the state muscle (which is discouraged in third world countries) to bail out private businesses that had (and will once again) collapsed, do you think "the collapse of Soviet Union meant the end of history?"(although you did not use this phrase but your question supports it).

If this is so, donot you think that the collapse of the US- and by extention of the world- markets eqaully meant the end of history?

By the way, am of the view that "the collapse of the Soveit Union" meant nothing other than the fact that socialism was, amongst other factors, failed by individuals and the fact that too much of Soviet Union resources had been correctly used to fund national struggles in third world countries.

Conversely, the US and its allies were amassing or "accumulating through disposssing" third world countries their mineral and human resources in collussion with oppressive regimes?

My brother, you need to tell us as to which economic and political sytem do you think can resolve the three interrelated contradictions especially in South Africa where the beneficiaries of the new epoch countinues to be white (usually male) South African as stats after stats confirm.

This does not seek to be blind to the fact that there has been progress however much more could be done if we can start by national key industries such as some strategic mines, banks and more particularly the food secotor.

For now, let me pause here.
