 A reply to Mazibuko Jara

Afrika Katze says those who call for a new left are complicit in the
failures of the old

The outdated pseudo political analysis (see
here<http://www.politicsweb.co.za/politicsweb/view/politicsweb/en/page71654?oid=148833&sn=Detail>)
of the dynamism characterizing the nature of the political state in South
Africa by disgruntled used to be party hacks of the calibre of Mr Mazibuko
Jara must be challenged head on.

In his article conveniently titled "Time for a new democratic Left to enter
onto the political stage, Jara advocates for the reconfiguration of the
political landscape by calling for the establishment of a "new democratic
Left".

On the surface of it, Jara appears to succeed in convincing his audience
that ideologically the country is in crisis due to the irreconcilable, but
manageable differences emanating from the unfaithful and polygamous
relationship between the SACP, Cosatu and the ANC. On this level Jara comes
across as an honest and reliable messenger of the people, a true vanguard of
the interest of the poor. The one who, upon realizing the first signs of
impending danger, wastes no time in alerting his compatriots to scurry for a
safe zone somewhere on top of a cliff. A good fellow indeed, at least this
is what Jara wishes us to believe.

However, upon closer inspection and application of basic tools of analysis
into Jara argument, it becomes quite clear that calling for a "new
democratic Left" is in fact nothing but another sadistic ploy by
schadenfreude communists hell-bent on implanting confusion in the hearts and
minds of the people of this country.

For the most part of his life, Jara has been working incessantly to convince
the working class and the poor that the hegemony of the tripartite alliance
is the most critical and best strategy to realize the objectives of the now
ill-fated National Democratic Revolution (NDR).

Subsequently, for the past three elections it is the poor, mostly illiterate
and downtrodden masses who have been securing sweeping election victory for
the elitist ANC.

Instead of thanking these poor souls with habitable houses, clean water and
sanitation, quality education for their kids and a responsible response to
the HIV/Aids pandemic, the Alliance government has outrun itself in
entrenching the power and wealth of a few well connected comrades. Alliance
leaders cruise in big and flashy German sedans while children from poor
house-holds are faced with the reality of walking tens of kilometres
barefoot to be taught to read and write under trees and when it pours there
is no schooling.

It is mischievous of Jara and company to be calling for the establishment of
a "new democratic Left" without first publicly denouncing and castigating
the folly of the ‘old Left '.
