I am very pleased to see the minister doing what she si doing for the
education system. Just a concern from the so calleed analystsis and
specialist like Graeme Bloch who does not seem to understand the South
African curriculum.
To all of you out there who believe that OBE is "dead", think twice because
it is NOT. The minister has indicated that the National curriculum statement
will be reviewed. The outcomes based approach to teaching stays. coming back
to add on the outcomes is the basic arithmetic and reading and writing. The
text books used will also be reviewd to add more meat (knowledge) to what
our children learn. The emphasis on skills (outcome which is the O in OBE)
will be coupled with knowledge (which was misssing)
Teachers (like myself) will still proudly emphasise outcomes (the end in
mind when you start a project{in business}. We are however going to have to
also emphasise the actual work by learners and not spend time filling
psychological assessment papers in order to decide if the child fails or
not.
Learning areas (what you call subject) with similar or near similar content
like science and techonolgy will be recombined to make time and emphasise
language.
iI personally commend the minister for this steps because i see where she is
going and am prepared to come along.
