On the 20th June 2008 I posted the letter below, about Floyd Shivambu, to the YCL discussion forum and was lashed by comrades. But I believe in the past political insults by Malema on the communist leaders, of both the SACP and the YCL, I am vindicated because the language is Floyd's in what Malema has said in the past.
Subject: Floyd Shivambu not what we want in a YCL leader. To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected], [email protected] Comrades Ratebogo has point to a certain extent about Floyd, the YCL Gauteng Organising Secretary. Talking about socialism or being conversant about it or having excelled in Economics or Sociology does not automatically qualify you as a socialist or a communist. *It is either we learn comrades or we teach Ratebogo if we think he does not know.* While Floyd speaks of not responding to barking dogs he should think deep and interrogate his ideological and political conscience. I do not have a proper yardstick to judge or assess communist but Floyd does not have the required communist ethos in him and does not even promise. It is good for him to be employed in the SACP or COSATU as one of the employees and collect huge cash rather than sending him to lead the Young Communists who yearns for action and who are prepared to dirty their hands in building Socialism in their lifetime, *I bet Floyd is not a character that would go and work on the ground with the masses of young people in the communities as required of any communist*. This is not what we want. There are so many practical young communists who are real activists who did not meet politics at tertiary but grew up in this liberation movement, the sins of these young communists is that they never studied in Wits or were never SASCO members with the likes of Manamela or did not tow a certain view at a certain given moment. *Example: Do you know that George Raphela, the former YCL National Organiser, was strategically removed from the YCL HQ just because he " he cannot speak GOOD ENGLISH". * Shivambu and his cohorts believes that leadership positions in the YCL are only made for SASCO colleagues, others should follow while "learning English". *A Gucci socialist will lead young communists to a Gucci Republic instead of socialist dispensation. Keep quoting to prove your cases but know that you are far from being an activist that Gauteng YCL and the whole YCL movement need to revive itself. * ** *Be an analyst in the Party or COSATU and work I believe in this you can do good my leader with due respect, but for young communists you are nowhere near what we want in a leader. Your are an Ivory Tower, so aloof, highly proud, rigid, stiff, uncommunist outlook, unaccommodative, anti-social outlook, more like a western computer nerd rather than a communist activist. * ** *Lead us please, we are willing to follow you. We are also not willing to follow wrong directions. YCL is not some branch of SASCO or some heavily financed Wits SRC, which is what motivates many tertiary students to join student politics. * ** ** *Lead us Floyd, Malefo allow followers to critisize their leader do not be a shield.
