*FAWU at ABI Coke continue to be on strike*

*Issued on 20th January 2010 at 09h35*

Striking members of FAWU at ABI Coke continue to be on strike and continue
with picketing and other demonstrations next to ABI premises, particularly
at the four manufacturing plants in Midrand, Pretoria West, Develand (next
to Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital) in Gauteng and Phoenix (in Durban) on a
daily basis.

Today (20th January), the General Secretary (Mr Katishi Masemola) will be
addressing picketing workers at Midrand plant at 11h00. *On Friday
(22**nd**January), the General Secretary will be addressing striking
workers at the
ABI Pretoria plant at 11h00.** *

Meanwhile, the union has convened an urgent meeting, to be attended by its
Provincial Secretaries and National Negotiators among others, for the
21stJanuary so as to thrash out details of a campaign programme
against Coca
Cola in the run-up to and during the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.

A letter has been sent to Dr Danny Jordaan asking for an audience to the
union concern about the sponsorship of Coca Cola to the event and on our
campaign to ‘smash’ the brand and to expose abusive practices of labour
brokers and exploitation of crew members on-board the ABI delivery trucks
bearing coca cola logo.

We will be meeting with the leadership of COSATU in the next two weeks,
before the Coca Cola Workers Alliance meeting in Geneva, Switzerland on the
4th and 5th February, to discuss details of taking forward the *consumer
boycott campaign against coca cola products and liquor products of SAB Ltd.
