Numsa vows to stand by Mantashe against ANCYL CEDRIC MBOYISA
JOHANNESBURG - Bring it on! This is a war cry by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa), which has vowed that the ANC Youth League and its “handlers” will never succeed in attempts to unseat ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe. “We will meet them in the streets. We are going to swell the ranks of the ANC,” Numsa general secretary Irvin Jim said in Johannesburg yesterday. In a scathing attack on “anti-communist” elements in the alliance, Jim said the ANC was not an organisation of “tsotsis” (thugs): “This is an alliance of blood, a revolutionary alliance. “We don’t sit in shebeens and say you are my friend, so you must become the next secretary-general (of the ruling party),” he added. Turning his attention to President Jacob Zuma, he questioned his silence on the Mantashe issue. He charged that the League was merely a front of the capital interests who wanted to get rid of Mantashe. [email protected] -- You are subscribed. This footer can help you.
