REGGAE SEMINAR INVITATION
 
February has been declared as Reggae Month by the Government of Jamaica and 
since 2008 the month has been used to highlight the role of reggae music and 
the impact of its philosophy on Jamaican culture, industry and society as well 
as the global impact of reggae. 
 
The Jamaican High Commission in collaboration with Black Eagle Sounds and 
Sounds-of Edutainment will be co-hosting the first Reggae Seminar in South 
Africa on 20th February 2010 at the South African State Theatre in the City of 
Tshwane, from 9am to 12pm under the theme “Re-Examining the State of Reggae in 
South Africa: Challenges, Prospects and Opportunities in the 21st Century and 
its Linkages with the Diaspora.”
 
This event is being held in South Africa to coincide with the second biennial 
International Reggae Conference being convened by the University of the West 
Indies in Kingston from the 17th until the 20th of February 2010, under the 
theme "Current and Future Trends in Popular Music". Additional details on this

Local and Regional Reggae artists will be invited to attend this august 
seminar, broadcasters, reggae selectors, promoters, non governmental and 
governmental institutions will be encouraged to attend this significant 
seminar, the first of its kind to be convened on African Soil . 
 
The relationship between South Africa and Jamaica dates back in the pages of 
history; in essence both these countries are historically and culturally 
connected, and this timely reggae seminar will serve to increase mutual 
understanding and boost the relationship between the people of both countries.

AFRIKAN LITTERATURE SEMINAR
 
Theme: Remembering Timbuktu – a forecast on Afrikan Litterature 
 
Date: Saturday 27 February 2010

Time: 10am to 15:30pm
 
Program: Film screening of “500 Years Later” (multi-award winning movie by Owen 
‘Alik Shahadah – see www.500yearslater.com  Presentations by Mr Siphiwo Mahala 
(author and Deputy Director DAC), Andile Mngxitama (writer, publisher), Brother 
Buntu (lecturer, activist), June Joseph (owner of Xarra Books)

AFRIKAN LITTERATURE SEMINAR INVITATION
 
THEME: REMEMBERING TIMBUKTU
 
You are cordially invited to attend the Afrikan History Month seminar 
 
Afrikan History Month is celebrated annually in the month of February, and once 
again Azali Nuru development agency in collaboration with the Department of 
Arts and Culture, The National Library of South Africa, Ebukhosini Solutions, 
South African Chapter of the Africa Renaissance and the African Renaissance 
Youth Movement, cordially invites you to attend this year seminar at the 
National Library of South Africa.
 
The theme for this year is “REMEMBERING TIMBUKTU” a forecast on Afrikan 
literature. The programme will start with a screening of the multi award 
winning documentary called 500 years later by Alik Owen Shahadah. Then followed 
by piercing, radical, robust and progressive presentation from Mr Siphiwo 
Mahala, an author of the book, when a man cries, and a Deputy Director at DAC 
in Books and publishing directorate. Mr Andile Mngxitama, the founder of the 
New Frank Talk. We will also be joined by Brother Buntu from Ebukhosini 
solutions, a social activist, scholar and social entrepreneur. We also have 
June Joseph, the owner of Xarra books, a store which focuses the promotion of 
African literature.  
Additional items: Poetry, singers and stalls with Afrikan-Centred merchandise.
