Ya, well, no, fine, Patrick Bond. I'm not quite sure why you are deliberately sending your reply to my contribution to "DEBATE", to the YCL, but so be it, have it your own way.
I am the one who scanned that chapter of "The Wretched of the Earth" and put it on the Internet, as well as on a CD for you, and you have been using it as a sort of "medicinal compound" for every case, ever since. Such is the shallowness of your political understanding. But Fanon doesn't say anything about lifestyle audits, does he? So don't try and bluff me like that, please, if you don't mind. That's just demagogy, and there's a bit too much of it about at the moment. Strikes, we know about. Go-slows, too. Works-to-rule. Meetings in work time. Marches. Pickets. And more. Frantz Fanon, a psychologist and clandestine propagandist and intellectual for the Algerian FLN, knew very little about any of these tactics, but trade unionists do know about them. Communist Party cadres know about them. The "Lifestyle Audit" is a new one. Unless you count the "Cultural Revolution" in China, of course. Or maybe if you count the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Is that what you are after? Who is going to be in charge of these Lifestyle Audits? Will it be Bheki Cele? After all, he knows plenty about lifestyle. The ANC YL also wants Lifestyle Audits now. Who will they vote for for Auditor-in-Chief? Tony Yengeni? What will happen when you are up for a Lifestyle Audit, fingered by some jealous former comrade, say? Will you be suspended for six months while you wait your turn for the auditors? Or will you have to soldier on while the paparazzi eat you alive? Will it be a sort of "Top Billing" in reverse? Or, is "Top Billing" going to be abolished now? That will be a relief. Y'now, what, Patrick Bond? I really like the idea of us all going around in Mao-Zedong-style cotton suits. I've always fancied that, because I am lazy to dress fancy. Do you think this is what is coming? If not, then where are the auditors going to draw the line? Yes to Famous Grouse, but no to Chivas? We are entitled to know these things.
