Cde Ruffian, et al Let me first summarise what you raised so that I can be able to engage. 1. You raised the issue of debating (battle for) leadership using imperialist media. 2. The public being brain washed by the very same imperialist media. 3. Whether the issue is on nationalisation or about leadership. 4. Lack of involvement of basic units of the organisation in the debates. 5. Congress branches 6. Fighting for recognition through community protests. 7. Real state of service delivery. 8. The question of genuine revolution or pursuit for self enrichment Media is a source of distributing information as quickly as possible. Some of those raised for leadership and some of the debates raised through media, can hardly pass through formal channels. In my wondering mind, I suspect that media is used by comrades to popularise a view, prepare the general public and the worst is intimidate comrades with the view to suppress debates. Enroute polokwane, there was a view that debates were stiffled in the ANC and we wanted to open up. Today, comrades claim that the platform is there, but run away from the platform and use imperialist media to convey a message or to raise an alliance internal debate. As a result, the general public became reliant on media in order to know what is happening around the country. No branch of the ANCYL has received a communique from the national office on processes of the nationalisation of mines. If branches have debated the issue it is because it was already on media. Branch members are as well dependent on media to know the ins and outs of their organisation. Since 2005, (subject to debate) all issues pertaining to individuals are politicised. All debates were aligned with preference for leadership. Comrades continue to treat other comrades and the issues they raise with suspicion. Since then, it was whether one is with Mbeki or with Zuma. Because some still have the Polokwane hangover these tendency still persist. Others have, unfortunately, before debriefing from the Polokwane fever jumped into the Mantashe or Mbalula "contest". As a result, debates are free from honesty, thus results will not be based on the realities on the ground but on preference for leadership (Put simply: on factions). Branches of the movement have no role to play except nominating media popularised preferences, electing delegates for conferences, advocating and lobbying for this faction over the other. There are no branch programmes. The ANC is not visible except on media where the spokespersons and leadership of various alliance structures are addressing media conferences. Those who normally lose influence within the ANC go to the public and push for service delivery riots. In this way, they get recognised through media, and the general public as pure advokuteers of the plight of the people. This recognition is based on interests of councillorship and deployments to government departments. Others then join in because they have business interests that can be pushed by politicians. Service delivery is under siege. Construction, provision of water, supply of stationery, pharmaceutical products and other general supplies to government cost thrice or four time than they are worth because of tendering business. The amounts of money that could be used to develop communities remains in the hands of those entitled to perform these responsibilities. Materials used to build schools, clinics, construct roads etc are of cheap quality. This is done by the tenderprenuers in order to maximise profit. They have less interest in the ANC manifesto but have all interest in personal aggrandisement. What is to be done? 1. The ANC and its alliance should go back to basics and observe all organisational procedures and protocols. 2. All those perceived or alleged to be violating organisational codes of conducts/ethics of the movement should be brought to book. 3. All structures of the movement should revive its disciplinary committees so as to correct and heal the operations of our glorious movements. 4. All members of the ANC should compulsory attend at least four political schools or workshops conducted by upper structures. 5. Branches without programmes should be given hands-on assistance for six months until the balls are rolling. 6. All commissars, former NEC, PEC and REC members as well as other capable comrades should be identified to provide manpower in the political education programme. What is to be done on government business? 1. The ANC-Government should review its procurement policy in order to do away with tenderpreneurs. 2. All out-sourced services should be returned back to government so as to employ more people thus lifting our economy. 3. I support COSATU that representatives should either choose to be in business or remain in government. 4. All contractors who performed badly in their previous assignements be made to pay back half of the amount or their owners be suspended from owning companies. I remain, true in my character as, a member of the ANC. Amandla!!!!!! "Ignorant men don't know what good they hold in their hands until they've flung it away." -Sophocles >>> "[email protected]" <[email protected]> 09/03/2010 13:41 >>> Comrades it is sad to note how battles or debates for leadership play themselves out in the public discourse, our organaisation[the ANC] and the alliance have certainly made itself a victim of the imperialist media and the public is continously brain washed by this source of news. The unfortunate part is dat our own comrades are caught in the middle of this entire rapture. I have asked myself as to wether is this issue really about nationalisation n leadership in 2011&2012, but i have realised dat a huge majority of our membership in all the branches was actually unaware of many of these things, and one really wonders, are branches really basic units of the organisation? Though this is our organisational principle, it is quite notably a difficult task for those in upper structures to put this into practice. Personally i have noted dat brancches r only important for congresses n wen comrades in those branches r desperate to be ward councillors. And recently, there has been a spiral of community protests, which we claim have been caused by comrades again who r fighting for tenders and depoyment in the 2011 local government processes, i might b wrong and i should be corrected if dat is the case. But my question is, what is the state of service delivery in those communities, are the people getting what they promised, second to dat is wether are these ANC comrades who are said to b the chief architects of the temporary 3rd revolution really fighting for service delivery or are they fighting for an opportunity for self-enrichment. yours in persuit of wat is to be done Cde Sentle Oliphant -- You are subscribed.
