On the 10th of March 11years ago a General Secretary of Numsa passed
away. This comrade hails from Kwazakhele eBhayi,eNobathana.
Last week the was a series of memorial lecture of him led by the SACP
of Mbuyiselo Ngwenda District.Every time I listen to comrades speaking
about this comrade I'm always moved as a young person whom I subscribe
to the ideology of Socialism. When I saw this bhuti years ago who used to
visit my aunt
I didn't know then that I was listening to the man one day will be
leaving this great legacy for the working class.I just knew when I saw a
placard which was informing
public about his memorial service and funeral programs I then developed
an interest to know and understand who was this comrades.
Fortunate or unfortunate I was then employed to the company he was also
selling his labour power to.It is in VWSA where I received a bit info
about him through
talking to old men in the factory and reading speeches of past
congresses of NUMSA.Cde I believe we are not there yet on achieving what
this young legend
belives on.Mbuyi believed that there is no better cause for this working
class to be served other than the one of building a strong working
class.I then have some questions and concerns in terms of how far are we
in that idea and principle cde Ngwenda believed on.
Its 11years ago when Ngwenda died having this idea but one has to know
that did we mange to build strong working class.Having people who are
still not have a proper house to leave, having shop stewards who are
still serving their self interest other than of the working class, having
workers who are no-n unionized especially the young workers whom are
exposed to the victimization and exploitation by the capitalists whilst
comrade Mbuyi died for the better cause of building the same working
class organization.I wonder communists and NUMSA programmes do talk on
what Mbuyi believed on.I'm sure and believe Cde Mbuyi if he was still
alive he would never appreciate factionalism within working class
organization,he would have fight against the tendency of imposing
leaders to masses but would have a ensured that people will elect a
leader they believe to,he would never allow defamation of characters
especially of the leaders of the organization.I further understand and
know that Cde Mbuyi was of high moral and discipline a comrade of
principles of the working class and the ideology of Socialism.
When I interact with old and senior workers within VWSA company most of
them has this to say "Yindoda ke leyo".Immediately after that what
strikes in my mind will be the fact that I wonder that will be said by
me and other young shop stewards on this company.I always do
introspection and check whether are we having the legacy of this
comrade?
Legacy of Cde Mbuyi consists of honest, obedient and a servant of the
working class,a comrade who never championed the interest of the workers
for his personal interests but he will champion it for the better cause
of building a strong working class organization.Cde Mbuyi was good to
explain and articulate the position of the organization to workers and
workers of VW then I'm told when this comrades talk ungeva nesipeliti
sisiwa everyone umamele kakuhle what Cde Mbuyi is saying. He was young
leading old man some were at the same age with his father but because of
his personal and organizational discipline these old men will give Cde
Mbuyi a respect.I hope and believe the establishment of youth desk will
produce leaders who can lead the union on their early years of youth
like comrade Mbuyi and restore his legacy of being a disciplined
comrade,I believe it will not produce leaders who will be owning houses
or mansions that worth millions of rands whilst they call themselves
communist who are fighting for a better working class organization, will
not produce leaders who will be driven by factionalism and greed of
power.Cde Mbuyi died for us young people to have a decent work and
decent wages. We are then faced with a challenge of not understanding
what is a living and decent? For the restoration of legacy of Cde Mbuyi
young workers especially of NUMSA needs to be taught of what is a living
wage? To be told that by having a money to buy Levis jeans,Nike tekkies
and Blackberry cell phone doesn't mean one is getting a living wage but
it means capitalism is killing us on different ways. Its young workers on
different factories who are blacklisted because of debts they owe to
institutions of higher education though some didn't even manage to
obtain a diploma or a degree on those institutions because they dropped
out because of not affording to continue get loans from those
institution.I believe if Cde Mbuyi was still alive he would have fight
against that and on the same breath will sensitize us of how should we
conduct ourselves when we embark on the fight against capitalism. When I
was a member of Mbuyiselo Ngwenda Brigades being trained by Cde.
Tshayana I was made to understand that comrade Mbuyi was not allergic on
debates he would challenge issues and put his opinion on different
issues but he was more discipline to the organization decisions even if
he was not supporting a certain view but if the majority see otherwise
Cde Mbuyi will align himself with what the majority is saying.Cde Mbuyi
knew that nobody is above the organization and leaders on the
organisation comes and go but the organization remains strong.
All in all I need to know how far are we as the current generation of
young workers in restoring the legacy of this comrade.
