*Eloquent union makes trenchant point at Easter* *Insider, Business Day, Johannesburg, 7 April 2010*EASTER appears to have spurred the folks at the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) press desk into some uncharacteristic eloquence. In a release titled "Hungry Aurora workers still wait for Godot", NUM points poetically at the issue.
"Over 2000 Aurora workers who spent a black Easter weekend at Aurora East Rand are yet to receive their outstanding two months' wages. The workers, who could not be with their families during the Easter weekend, are now in dire straits as they have no food at all. The NUM will today make an intervention and calls on caring South Africans to lend a hand towards assisting the destitute workers.
"We have people who suffer from diabetes and others who have gone without food for days and we are very disappointed in Khulubuse Zuma and Zondwa Mandela," says Frasy Namanyama, the NUM chairman at Aurora East Rand. "They had their Easter with their families possibly somewhere overseas and we had to linger around here with no food," says Namanyama.
