*(**ZINASU MEDIA RELEASE**) 09 April 2010*

*ZINASU joins the world in celebrating the anniversary on the death of Cde
Chris Tembisile Hani*

Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) on behalf of all students in
Zimbabwe would like to join the A.N.C., the South African Communist Party
(S.A.C.P.), the South African people and the whole world in commemorating
the 17th anniversary marking the death of one of Africa’s greatest loyal and
revolutionary luminaries Cde Chris Tembisile Hani. The fierce fighter in the
South African people’s struggle against the heinous apartheid regime, was
killed on the 10th of April 1993 in Dawn Park, Johannesburg by a conspiracy
of a rapacious clique of white supremacist gangsters who wanted to block the
road towards a just society and majority rule in South Africa.

ZINASU President on behalf of the students of Zimbabwe wishes to salute the
unwavering, revolutionary, steadfast commitment and heartfelt sacrifice of
Cde Hani to freeing the people of South African from the jaws of all forms
of injustice and discrimination and his early efforts in championing the
spread of democracy and good governance in South Africa and Africa
par-excellence. ZINASU comments the tremendous work that Cde Hani played as
the Chief of Staff of ANC’s armed wing, Umkonto weSizwe, and as the
Secretary General of the South African Communist Party in efforts to bring
about the fall of the notorious apartheid regime in South Africa.

His views of a vibrant and revolutionary youth, epitomized during his
youthful stint with the ANC while studying at Fort Hare, continue to inspire
the students’ struggles for academic freedoms, democracy and just society in
Zimbabwe. Indeed the students’ movement is indebted to Cde Hani’s as a
fearless democrat who fought for the common man, good values and the kind of
society that South Africa is today. While celebrating Cde Hani’s
achievements, ZINASU takes this opportunity to remind the inclusive
government to address the challenges of restrictive tuition fees,
accommodation crisis, brutality, the violation of students’ rights and the
multifaceted crisis in this country.

Lastly on behalf of the Union, the President salutes other cadres who
sacrificed selflessly alongside Cde Hani for the same cause, such as Cde
Govan Mbeki, Steve Biko, among others and those who have continued with Cde
Hani’s struggle for a just African society, such as Cde Nelson Mandela, Cde
Tokyo Soswale, Cde Thabo Mbeki, Cde Jacob Zuma, Cde Nzimande, Cde Vavi among
others.

ZINASU together with the 21st Century generation of youth leaders in Africa
and the world will continue to prosper and benefit from his wisdom and
resilient fighting spirit

For and on behalf of ZINASU
