FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ON SAPA WIRES
STATEMENT FROM THE OFFICIALS OF THE ANC - 20 APRIL 2010

The African National Congress officials held a constructive and fruitful
meeting with the National Working Committee of the ANC Youth League on
Monday, the 19th of April 2010. The ANC Youth League presented to the ANC
leadership a concrete programme adopted at their National Executive
Committee Lekgotla in February this year. The ANC Youth League also gave a
briefing on the following issues:

On the Nationalisation of Mines Study tours
The ANC YL informed the ANC on their study tours to various countries to
learn about various models of nationalisation. The ANC respects the right of
the ANC YL to gain new knowledge in the process of formulating a perspective
on nationalisation of Mines.

On the Hosting of the World Festival of Youth and Students
The ANC YL informed the ANC of South Africa’s hosting of the 17th World
Festival for Youth and Students in December 2010. The festival will bring
more than 10 000 youth organisations from across the world, and the visit to
Venezuela by the ANC YL between the 21st and 26th of April will include the
acceptance of the hosting torch.

On the ANC Youth League National General Council
The ANC YL also informed the ANC leadership on their intention to hold
their National General Council in July this year to deliberate on important
policy matters towards the NGC of the ANC in September this year.

* On the Charges against ANC Youth League President
The ANC has preferred charges against the ANC Youth League President, Cde
Julius Malema. In this regard, we would like to restate that issues of
discipline in the ANC belongs to the structures of the ANC and are therefore
not matters of the public or the media. ANC Officials will discuss issues of
discipline of all members internally and will not engage on internal matters
with the media.*

Finally, the ANC will continue to engage with the leadership of the ANC
Youth League on a constant basis. We will also continue to engage with the
leadership of the ANC Women’s League as well as the ANC Veterans League. We
carry a joint responsibility to build a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic
and prosperous South Africa. The ANC Youth League further recommitted its
support for the entire leadership of the ANC.
