The ANC Youth League is expressing rage at a trivial point. Why did they
not pick up the phone or just walk across the road to The Star office?
Any journalist, even you Cde Vusi if you did not have your blinkers on,
could have explained that even if this trip was not news to the ANC YL,
it was news to The Star and news to The Star's readers. That's why they
ran it.
What do you expect, Cde Vusi? Was The Star suppose to put a headline
that said "Malema visits Chavez - not a surprise"?
I wonder if the comrades here know that you are a journalist?
I winder if your journalist colleagues know what you are writing about
them here? Don't worry, I won't tell them.
But for heaven's sake, Cde Vusi. Have you lost all sense of proportion?
How can you, a journalist, support this flaming rage attack? I mean, so
what if the visit was a surprise or not?
The Star got the ANC YL's media release and put it on their front page.
For that, the ANC YL goes berserk?

Just yesterday, SAMWU had to correct an e-TV report which aired
chaotic scenes from last year's strike without telling the viewer that
the footage was from the archives.
Alert comrades from SAMWU picked up the misleading footage because
there was a flag from IMATU, which took part in last year's strike but
was not part of the strike that just ended.
Comrades, we need to be vigilant, otherwise the capitalist media will
be at hand to assist the counter-revolutionary forces win the
propaganda wars.

ANC YOUTH LEAGUE PERESIDENT JULIUS MALEMA TO LEAD A DELEGATION TO
ZIMBABWE AND WILL MEET PRESIDENT ROBERT MUGABE:

ANC Youth League President Julius Malema will lead a delegation of the
ANC Youth League National Executive Committee to Zimbabwe. The ANC
Youth League delegation will be hosted by ZANU PF Youth and
constitutes part of strengthening relations with former liberation
movements and will provide both the ANC Youth League and ZANU PF Youth
a platform to share information on programmes to build a better Africa
and world. The visit will also be utilised to popularise South
Africa’s hosting of the World Festival for Youth and Students in
December 2010.
The visit will also incorporate the ANC Youth League’s study-tour
programme of visiting countries that have succeeded or failed with
Nationalisation of and greater State participation in sectors of their
economies. The study-tours will proceed to China, Chile, Venezuela,
Brazil and Cuba.
The delegation to Zimbabwe will be led by President Julius Malema and
will include the following members of the National Executive Committee:

Pule Mabe—Treasurer General
Floyd Shivambu
Kenetswe Mosenogi

joint press briefing with ZANU PF Youth at the Zanu PF Head Quarters,

His Excellency President Robert Mugabe in Harare.

In another attack on the media, the ANC Youth League defended a "study
trip" to Venezuela on Wednesday, saying it was part of efforts to
"advance the nationalisation of mines".
African National Congress Youth League spokeswoman Magdalene Moonsamy
said a report in The Star newspaper which described it as a "surprise
visit" was "appalling".
"The ANCYL is appalled by the lies spread by The Star newspapers...
"The ANCYL is disgusted that foreign-owned newspapers continue to
misrepresent the efforts made by the ANCYL in advancing the interests
of the developmental struggle," Moonsamy said in a statement.
"The ANCYL calls for such unethical journalism and lies to stop."
She said the "study tour" had been public knowledge since a January
lekgotla and was not a surprise, as was stated in The Star's headline,
"Malema in surprise trip".
Moonsamy said: "The ANCYL has planned study tours as part of its
process to advance the nationalisation of mines [and] this includes
the study tour to Venezuela.
"The study tour to Venezuela forms part of a series of study tours.
"A delegation has recently returned from Zimbabwe where a series of
programmes aimed at gaining an intimate understanding of
nationalisation of the various sectors of the economy were
undertaken," said Moonsamy.
The latest attack on the media came after Malema called a BBC
journalist a "bastard" and an "agent" at a news conference earlier
this month.
The SA National Editors' Forum at the time said Malema's behaviour was
"totally unacceptable".
The Star editor Moegsien Williams declined to comment. - Sapa
