*THE DISMISSAL OF DA CITY COUNCILOR*
The Young Communist League of South Africa in the Brian Bunting District
(CAPE METRO) welcomes the dismissal of DA Councillor, Charlotte Tabisher
after being guilty by the City Council disciplinary hearing on charges of
fraud. We however reject that DA Provincial structure will forge an
investigation on the matter. As the YCLSA we furthermore wish the South
African Police and the judiciary will find her guilty of Corruption. Cape
Town is the only place faced with serious class contradictions and
victimization of the working class, therefore acts of this nature can’t be
tolerated, especially being found guilty of “irregularly collecting top-up”
payments for housing projects. Our people daily sleep on the streets because
of shortage of housing and yet people entrusted to change that are the ones
victimising. As the YCLSA together with the progressive forces of our
movement, we will fight corruption and root out all links of capitalism in
our society. Hence we then agree with the SACP that DA is not a solution to
people’s problems because it does not understand the class struggle in South
Africa, particularly in the Cape Metro.
*“VIOLENT” PROTEST *
We highly reject all forms of violent protests in the Cape Metro by whomever
person or organisation. As YCLSA, we agree with the ANCYL on the matter of
requesting decent facilities for the people but reject the destruction of
the temporarily corrugated structures, violent protests happening in
Khayelitsha. We furthermore condemn the Metro police actions towards the
innocent people expressing their grievances. We understand the frustration
and we believe YL had taken right steps by taking the matter to the Human
Rights Commission. These violent protests will lead to criminals being
opportunistic in the process and drive an “innocent” agenda to suit their
own needs. We are also convinced that YL does not have other options for the
people but yet the resort to this nature. As YCLSA, we feel the poor will be
victims of seeking political popularity by the League. We are therefore
hoping that the regional youth league is not seeking political space over
the recently disbanded provincial structure.
*YOUTH DEVELOPMENT STRUCTURES*
As the YCLSA we wish to stress to the DA City Council to speed up with
processes of youth development in the Cape Metro. Young people are seating
at home with various skills and qualifications but the city is not giving
them opportunities to develop themselves. The DA must start go out to the
black communities and make young people useful and given employment
opportunities and not keep them for the white minority capitalists.
