CLIMATE JUSTICE NOW! SOUTH AFRICA
Western Cape Strategic Planning and Civil Society Workshop on the National
Climate Change Policy
Monday, 14 June 2010

Dear members & other Western Cape civil society

This is to inform and invite you to two important meetings taking place in Cape
Town on Monday 14 June.

The Strategic Planning session of Climate Justice Now! Western Cape will be
held on the 14th June 2010, at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) from
1–4pm.
In this workshop we will be discussing the action plan for CJN!SA – Western
Cape. The workshop will be comprised of a group of not more than 20
representatives from different member organisations including those that are
identified by the CJN!SA-WC as potential members. (A light lunch will be
provided from 12pm)

This event will be followed by a Civil Society Workshop on the National Climate
Change Policy from 4.30–6.30pm at the same venue.
As you may be aware, the Department of Water and Environmental Affairs is
leading the process to develop South Africa's national Climate Change Policy,
and they are currently in the phase of sourcing 'selected' civil society inputs
on the draft policy. DWEA intends to have a green paper ready by late June, and
many of us are so caught up in the IRP2 process, that we’re not paying much
attention to our national climate change policy. It is likely that the
Department of Water and Environmental Affairs will send its officials on 18
June to come and speak us about the policy and in order to engage them from an
informed point of view we need to have this seminar. The seminar invite is open
to all civil society organisations and individuals interested in climate
change. (Tea/coffee will be provided from 4pm)
(A separate email will be sent about this second meeting which you can forward
to interested people).

Please indicate if you will require funds for transport, as this is limited.
