Are these the opposites of the same coin. Is there a systemic internal contradiction within the broader democratic movement.
The situation is unfortunate indeed and reminiscent of the past 15 years during the reign of the class project. It is clear that the residue of that era still reigns in our movement and they surely did not struggle to be poor. I am not an expert in law and particularly civil suites. But if you threaten to sue, to me you give an impression that you did something illegal, but do not want it exposed to the public. hence you call that defamation of character. To me, in simple terms a person who wants to sue means they are not clean. Now you are hanging their dirty linen in public, so to speak. They cannot justify their actions, but resort to the courts of law through the Constituion,to gag you from exposing their wayward actions and behavior. Perhaps legal fundis can analyse this differently, but this is the bottom line. If you threaten to kill, you want to remove permanently from society, those who want to expose, for all of society to see what you are doing is against social justice and peace, like the what was happening during the apartheid era. We respect all of our leaders in the movement, those in government and outside the corridors of power. These cadres were put in those leadership positions they are holding through that respect. There is nothing logically wayward in Ministers pursuing some business interests on the sidelines. Lest this is done by fair means with sensitivity towards the kind of society and state that we want to build in our country. If business tends to conflict with your ideals,if it threatens to conflict with the political mission and vision your Executive position is supposed to focus on in our democratic dinspensation, then you are free to resign and pursue your business interest. By so doing you will be able to fairly compete in the dog eat dog world of business and show dem how you can make the circle of lies bigger as you would want to do that inside government. The respect we have for them means they must at least earn it,in leading our country towards realizing its key strategic objectives as highlighted at Polokwane, the election manifesto and the State of the Nation address. We cannot let them take their eyes off the ball at this juncture of our struggle. Government must intensify the Lifestyle audit project so that there is a legitimate exposure of those who benefit unfairly from the fiscus. Otherwise the Zanufication of this country is looming somewhere in a not so distant horizon. This is in support of our General Secretary of COSATU and the Trade Union movement in particular, and generally the entire liberation movement. The struggle continues! Socialism is the future.
