*SABC head of news quest still unresolved**Xolani Mbanjwa and Siyabonga Mkhwanazi, The Star, Johannesburg, 13 July 2010*
THE SABC board is to meet this week to discuss the stalled process of selecting a head of news, after having told Phil Molefe that his controversial appointment had been reversed.
Deputy chairwoman Felleng Sekha has confirmed that steps are being taken to find a successor to Snuki Zikalala.
The candidates are former SABC head of TV news Jimi Matthews, Business Day political editor Karima Brown and Molefe.
"The interviews (of the candidates) will go ahead, but I cannot give you any details," Sekha said.
Zikalala left the SABC in April last year when his contract expired and the board did not renew it.
A board member, speaking on condition of anonymity, wasn't sure how soon the interviews would be finalised. "Unfortunately, not a hell of a lot of progress has been made."
An MP, who has been briefed about the developments, said he had learnt that the process had stagnated, with the panel being unable to meet.
"There is no movement to get the panel to meet. There is an unwarranted delay that no one understands. This thing is becoming messy," he said.
"There is a complete breakdown of relationship between the chairman and the board. There is no trust anymore.
"The board has written to Phil Molefe and told him he is not the head of news. The panel has to complete its work," he added.
Chairman Ben Ngubane, with the support of group chief executive Solly Mokoetle, appointed Molefe in May, incensing other members of the board as this had been done without their approval.
