Also joining in, we would like to thank our scientist for having shown that
civilization does not fall down from the sky and that it has always been the
result of people's toil and sweat committed in a particular course which in
this case is HIV/AIDS.
We would like to thank our native intellectuals for the awakening or the
renaissance of Africa on the social, cultural, scientific, economic and
political spheres.

We would like thank them for the TENOFOVIR gel and for once more proclaiming to
our youth of our country and continent that as African's we are thinkers and
also men of action.

As an African continent for years African pessimists have denounced us, hated
us, scorned us and even sneered at us and we have borne it all and kept silent.
We have been willing to carry the load of an unearned punishment.

For years as African youth we have recited a poem by Fernando de Rajas which
said, I quote

"o world, world when I was young I thought there was some order governing you
and your deeds, but now you seem to be labyrinth of errors , a frightful desert
a den of wild beasts, a game in which men move in circles. A stony field, a
meadow full of serpents. A flowering but barren orchard, a spring of cares, a
river of tears, a sea of suffering, a vain hope.
I have fallen into despair that could not find no meaning, no order and no
ultimate value"

But today as the African continent after hosting a successful world cup and now
a ground breaking discovery of a TENOFOVIR GEL, we would like to say that we do
not want to remember things that have been said about us and our continent
because as by giving them our words we give them part of ourselves , and cannot
leave them behind.

Today our scientists have proven that the truth was never absolute, since new
discoveries could always replace the old, it had to be demonstrated objectively
and measured by its effectiveness in the practical world and that is why today
as the African youth we can say there is order governing our continent, there
is no frightful desert of a den of wild beasts, we are not moving in circles,
there is no river of tears but rather we are forward looking, pragmatic able to
plan and organize.

Thanks to our intellectual stratum.

Let us commend SA scientists for the work they have done to discover this
gel, this is a great stride may be towards getting HIV cure one day.
Having to note that this gel gives 39% prevention during sexual
intercourse, NOT 100% PREVENTION.

Frankly, I have reservations when it comes to youth decision making in
terms of safe sex, condom use to be in particular. My experience tells me
that those who use condom do not use it consistently. How much more when
one can afford to buy a gel? We have to explain until today that
circumcision is not a 100% prevention but only minimises chances for
contraction or getting infected.

My strong suggestion to young people or every one sexually active is TO
CONTINUE USING CONDOM CONSISTENTLY. Let the gel be the last line of
defence in situations beyond one's control. It is NOT intended to replace
a CONDOM.
