*All unions in the Public Service call on all employing ministers and the finance minister to act to avoid the strike*

The *COSATU Public Sector Unions* and the *Independent Labour Caucus* (ILC) call on the employing ministers and the Minister of Finance to move decisively to address the demands of the public sector unions, in order to help to avoid a strike that could have profound impact on our country next week.

The revised offer by the employer is rejected by all the Unions and will inevitably lead to a total shut down of the Public Service on Tuesday, 10 August 2010, if substantial progress is not made today.

The Unions have demanded the Minister of Finance and the employing Ministers to join the negotiations to respond to labour demands, and why the country can afford a total shut down.

The Unions record that it is their express aim to finalise negotiations today, conclude a satisfactory agreement, and avert the looming strike.

Therefore, the council will continue today to compel the Employer to give focused attention and not to avoid engaging. The country now requires a speedy resolution to the looming crisis.
