I highly agree with Kaizer Mohau. For instance currently our Municipal Manager at Sol Plaatje Municipality earns 1.6 million per year. Whilst in the same Municipality there are many workers who are the working poor. Meaning they can not address their material conditions, they cannot provide for their children the quality education there are pursuing.
On top of that they continue looting the state through deviance tenders. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kaizer Mohau Sent: 12 August 2010 06:47 PM Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Re: SACP NORTH WEST CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO RESPOND POSITIVELY SACP NORTH WEST CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO RESPOND POSITIVELY Thursday, 12 August 2010 The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the North West province would wish to call on Government to respond accordingly to the demands tabled by the Public sector workers. It is our view that indeed it is very silly for government to argue that it has no money with which it can meet the demands of the workers. True as it is, ministers and executives are earning very disturbing salaries higher then those of people who are daily working to serve the public. For instances in some municipalities managers and Municipal managers are earning - more than R 1 million while government claims not to have money. In our province we are prepared to provide evidence that municipal managers based on their patronage based employment, are getting richer and richer at the expense not only of municipal workers but even affecting negatively on service delivery. For instance in one municipality in the province the post of municipal manager was advertised based on a far less then 1 million salary, but to our surprise the appointed municipal manager is earning more than 1 million - the question becomes how and why? We therefore calls on government to meet without delay the demands of public sector workers, failure which as the SACP in the North West we call on all our members and supporters to practically pay solidarity with workers. As Communists in this province we should participate in all actions organised by workers to ensure that we reduce capitalist exploitation of the poor and the workers by a democratic government. Workers voted for our government not for them to be treated as slaves but for their lives to be improved. We further find it difficult to understand why is our government compromising basic services to the poor. When teachers go on strike at this critical moment for students especially those in grade 12 as they are about to write exams and obviously considering the fact that there has been problems relating to this effect, it is indeed irresponsible on the part of government and not workers.
