*CWU response to Sunday Independent article*

The Communication Workers Union is concerned with two faceless people at SABC who are sleeping with Chairperson of the Board and GCEO of the SABC in the same blanket. These two faceless people have been privately meeting with GCEO without the mandate of CWU at SABC. We disown the article in Sunday Independent by these two faceless people.

Indeed the article is not the true reflection of CWU sentiments regarding the current situation between the board and the SABC. CWU is not the Union of loose cannons where members do as they please. There are proper structures and procedures to follow; therefore CWU distances itself from that thuggish and irresponsible article by the two faceless people and also treats it and all the individuals behind it with all the contempt and disrespect they deserve. CWU will beat the two faceless people until their handlers come out to the fore.

CWU urge the portfolio committee to act decisively against the Chairman of the Board and the GCEO of the SABC. We can’t have people who are not independent when dealing with issues of national interest. CWU supports the Parliamentary hearings taking place tomorrow. CWU believes that Parliament needs to look into the various corporate governance breaches that have happened at the SABC. There is significant evidence that the Chair of the Board has violated the various laws governing the SABC including the Broadcasting Act, the SABC articles of association etc. in terms of his appointment of the Head of News. Parliament needs to investigate this matter.
