*YCLSA SUPPORTS NUMSA STRIKE STARTING TODAY and AFFIRMS SUPPORT TO PUBLIC SECTOR WORKERS*
* * *1 SEPTEMBER 2010* * * The Young Communist league of South Africa (uFasimba) pledges its unequivocal support to the National Union of Metal workers of South Africa (NUMSA) as they take to the streets and march against exploitation and intransigent attitudes illustrated through wage negotiations, by supposed captains of Industries in the sector. The Captains of Industry will have to bear the brunt of refusing to meet worker demands and digest days of strike action to the detriment of their already lucrative pockets. Workers in the automobile sector continue to be exploited and under payed. The Global crisis hit hard in this particular sector and resulted in the loss of thousands of jobs. Labour brokers are still used to deviate from permanently employing workers and hence some workers if not most, do not enjoy the protection of the Labour relations Act. Working conditions continue to deteriorate and Employers have become innovative in finding ways to avoid adhering to some of the legislative requirements provided for in the LRA. The demands are legitimate and consistent with the crippling state of our economy and exorbitant costs of living which have had a severe impact on thousands of workers across the country. We further re-affirm our support for the public Sector strike and hope that government will stop behaving in the denialist manner in which it has behaved to the detriment of our people and urgently meet the demand of workers to curb the tragic impact the strike has had on service delivery. Health and Education are the key pillars of the ANC Manifesto, hence its within the best interest of the government to end this strike; these are the two government departments which will have the most casualties as evidence points that the strike has had a negative impact in the departments. Matriculants in particular will be the most affected casualties as we draw close to year end exams and trials. The number of preventable deaths is increasing daily in hospitals.
