PROVINCE OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Media statement
Date: 10 September 2010
The PEC of ANC is here to stay and no subsidiaries of the emergent ‘predatory
elite’ would change that
As the South African Students Congress (SASCO) we would like to take this
opportunity to respond to the vitriolic and slanderous lies, innuendos and
hallucinations expressed by the Eastern Cape ANC Youth League PEC particularly
as it relates to the PEC of the African National Congress.
The recently elected ANC YL PEC is insubstantially engaged in a programme
calling for the dissolution of the ANC provincial leadership. We want to place
it on record that this will never happen in our presence as progressive
structures of the Progressive Youth Alliance. We believe that this is just
sheer
grandstanding aimed at destabilizing the ANC PEC from doing its work in
fulfillment of the progressive resolutions of River Park and Polokwane.
There fact that there is no content that relates to youth development in these
calls exposes the PEC of YL as a structure populated by people that do not
have
any interest of young people at heart but are concerned about who gets
positions
where and how, so that they can either directly benefit or benefit through
kickbacks.
It further exposes the PEC of YL as a populated by people who are a subsidiary
of the emergent “predatory elite” within the movement, which has made it their
mission to dislodge the leadership of the ANC nationally and in provinces, by
opening the leadership succession discussion and by blackmailing leadership.
Instead of driving programmes for youth development and empowerment, the YL is
concerned about establishing itself as a provincial chapter of this
anti-communist, anti-worker, and anti-student tendency.
We are also aware that nationally the ‘predatory elite’ has launched plans to
institute divisions in the province, so to further their aims of having the PEC
of ANC disbanded and it is now becoming clear that the PEC of the ANC Youth
League is being made a launch pad for this project. This further exposes the
ANC
YL PEC as being populated by people who are not actual thinkers but rely on
contracted views.
We kindly call on our PYA ally the ANC Youth League to refrain from its actions
and further issue an apology to the leadership of the ANC in the province. As
SASCO we will continue to provide youth leadership and we will always seek to
strengthen our relations with other allies of the PYA.
We want to unequivocally express our confidence in the leadership of ANC as led
by Phumulo Masualle and Oscar Mabuyane. It is our view that the effectiveness
of
a leadership is access based on how it has been able to implement the mandate
given to it. Our view is that the leadership has been on point in the mandate
given to it in the River Park conference and there is no basis why people would
call for the leadership to be dissolved.
We call on the leadership of the ANC to continue doing it’s work and restore
unity and sanity in the province in an attempt to position the Eastern Cape as
an important province in the politics of South Africa.
Issued by the PEC of SASCO in Eastern Cape
