I hope this email wont be viewed as irrelevant.
As probably some of you might know me by now, my name Mandla HK Mndebele
and I have been part of this discussion forum since last summer(2009) while
I was
visiting IsraeI-Palestine. I have been following it almost daily ever
since.I have found
this forum very interesting, helpful and effective in-terms of sparking
robust debates
that provides very useful insights, info and knowledge about most of the
issues within
the national and international political platform, agenda and topics.
Because of the kind of job and social justice activities that I have been
embarked on during
my stay in the so-called (holy-land) i.e. Israel-Palestine, it has happened
that this year the
World Council of Churches(wcc) invited me to come again to the holy-land, to
further my
anticipations as an Accompanier and social justice advocate for the
Palestinian communities.
I left South Africa on the 03rd October 2010 and I will be based in the
West-Bank until 23rd of
December 2010.
Comrades for those of you who knows about the situation here, there is
nothing much I would say
for now, but those who happen to be less knowledgeable about the situation
here, I can only say that
the situation here is APARTHEID at is worst, there is a gross of human
rights abuse, violation of
International human rights law and Humanitarian law by the Israeli
government to Palestinian.
I now have a week only, but I have witnessed a lot of human rights abuse.
Many people back home
in SA, usually say why do activist like risk, waste time, energy and
resources trying to fix the
never-ending conflict in this region of the Middle-East? Well I have two
answers for them -:
a, For us in South Africa to have an effective and successful resistance
movement against the past
regime (apartheid government), it took a lot of international support,
(i.e. non-violent demonstrations,
boycotting of South African products, publicizing and exposing of
injustices); and that really help
our course as South Africans.
b. Secondly. if Israel and Palestine can have peace, that will halve most
global wars and conflicts.
So my fellow comrades, it is with great respect that I thought I should
bring this issue to be part of
some of the discussions on this forum especially for those who might be
interested to engage and
debate or know something about the situation here. I know at some point
Cosatu did send a delegation
here, however I was not able to follow-up the Cosatu initiative on the said
matter, so for those who might
have info, please I'll be grateful to know. I will be also constantly
posting some of the links with what is actually
happening on the ground and what other countries doing so far. This now
brings me to the question that I wanted
to ask as my first encounter about the situation here, "What is the Party's
position about the Palestine-Israel
conflict????
I was partially excited to read the statement of SA first citizen and ANC
President during the past ANC NGC ,
Comrade Jacob G Zuma saying that "the ANC will continue supporting peace
talks / initiatives between Israel and Palestine
with the aim of the two reaching a lasting peace", that was really
fulfilling, but the question still remains, "supporting how??
Comrades, again forgive me if this topic sounds very complex and irrelevant
for this forum, but as I said I really respect
the integrity of this forum and as a former party member myself for the Zola
branch.(# Note: I am saying former party member
bcoz my membership has expired, but I am intending to renew, immediately
when I return home)
