*Unions concerned at KZN school violence* *Judith Subban, East Coast Radio, Durban, 25 November 2010*SADTU says it is concerned about the number of violent incidents that have rocked schools in KZN recently.
The union's been commenting following the murder of a teacher at a school in uMsinga in northern KZN.The educator was shot several times at Somashi High School on Sunday.
The incident came just weeks after a principal, was stoned to death, near uMsinga.
In September, Mawombe High School in northern Zululand, was closed after pupils went on the rampage, throwing stones and breaking windows. It's believed the group was demanding the re-instatement of a suspended teacher.
SADTU's Siyabonga Mdletshe has condemned the violence."We are very concerned at the rate of violence in our institutions that's why in our programs we have ensured that we put them in the public domain for debates so that solutions are found collectively because it becomes a collective responsibility. It may not be the responsibility of the department or the police alone but it involves everybody."
Meanwhile, KZN Education MEC, Senzo Mchunu, has met with staff from Somashi High. The department says security has been beefed up at the school.
