SACP NORTH WEST PROVINCE DEFENDS THE RIGHT OF ITS STRUCTURES TO TAKE DECISIONS INDEPENDENT OF ANY ALLIANCE STRUCTURE Monday, 29 November 2010
When the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) was questioned regarding its conference with civil society, COSATU stood up rightfully so to take decisions without any interference from other Alliance partners; it is therefore disturbing why COSATU should try to attack the SACP on its constitutional structures decisions. We find it unacceptable that the position of the SACP General Secretary is reduced to monitory availability and not the SACP’s Mid-term vision which identified the state as part of key areas in which the SACP must focus on. The decision to release the SACP leadership including the General Secretary Comrade Blade Nzimande, was never intended to destroy the SACP or postpone the socialist struggle by the SACP, as per that resolution and deployment and accountability guidelines - adopted by the Special Congress, the release of the SACP leadership including the GS is organizationally reviewable it does result in any organizational /strategical or ideological dilemma for the SACP. Cosatu’s intention to engage the Party publicly when addressing an issue where SACP structures took resolution is both mischievous and populist but also geared towards personal attacks on the SACP General Secretary. As the SACP in the North West we do not think that the SACP should avoid its strategic challenges of influencing the state – as the SACP we have a role of ensuring that the state is able to deal decisively with challenges facing the working class and the poor in our country. It is highly disturbing for our Alliance partners to think of themselves as being senior than others. Our Alliance partners must learn to respect others and their independence. We are therefore calling on COSATU and some of its affiliates to engage the SACP as members and not outdoor political analysists- it is the SACP and its members who will decides on its leadership and how they must conduct themselves, whether it becomes fulltime or part time. We are therefore agreeing with the Augmented Central Committee that our General Secretary should continue to serve as both General Secretary of the SACP and as the minister of Higher Education – and we further call on all those who have doubts in this regard to engage the SACP properly and not in the capitalist media. Finally, COSATU as the only Alliance partner that is together with the SACP striving for Socialism with and for the working class and the poor, should know better in that how engage the SACP not in the media and public but in bilateral meetings with the SACP as our only strategic and reliable alliance partner.
