if you continue making opportunistic statements such as this, its only the da that will benefit from them and not the working class and the poor. This is an indication of desparation and politically delinked from the working class issues on the ground. There are many struggles that cdes could build around if they are real serious that are rooted in working class communities. The anc ran municipalities are sitting with similar short coming of how these white elephats are to be sustained and there might be even worst methods proposed.
Subject: Re: [YCLSA Discussion] Hiring out of CT stadium for DA parties To: [email protected] From: [email protected] Date: Tue, 1 Feb 2011 12:43:54 +0000 What Hypocrisy! So it is okay and so right for everyone to hire out soccer stadiums just as long as it is not the opposition parties. How petty! It is a norm in this country of ours for stadiums to be hired out for a whole variety of events other than soccer. This statement fails to bring us to light about what exactly is untoward with what the city of Cape Town is doing. It is not like they are breaking new ground with this. This whole furore is unjustified and without any intellectual basis.Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device From: "Dominic.Tweedie" <[email protected]> Sender: [email protected] Date: Tue, 01 Feb 2011 13:41:48 +0200To: YCLSA EOM Forum<[email protected]>ReplyTo: [email protected] Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Hiring out of CT stadium for DA parties YCLSA Brian Bunting District Press Statement, 1 February 2011 “Hiring out of CT stadium for DA parties” As the YCLSA in the Brian Bunting District (Cape Metro) we note with very serious concern the decision taken by the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee to rent out the Cape Town Soccer Stadium for Big Concerts, parties, etc with big monies of “R 700 000”. In as much we do not want the stadium to become a white elephant, also we do not want it to be abused for capitalist interests rather than its sole purpose. We are hoping that this new agenda is not for capital consolidation of the big fat capitalists in DA and want use the stadium to make money through running meaningless concerts, etc. If the DA wants to generate income to maintain the stadium, it must host major sporting events such as Bafana Bafana games, youth soccer tournaments and allow the Cape Town Based Clubs to use the stadium as their home ground. Furthermore, take half of the takings to develop other soccer fields in the city, particularly in Khayelitsha, Filipi and Nyanga. As youth organization of the Working Class Party we will never allow DA to abuse the 2010 South African Heritage for their own capitalist interests and generate money to build a mini Britain in the areas of Sea Point, Camps Bay and ignore the poor people in the location. We want all the people of the Cape to reject this agenda of DA and we even call upon the Ministry of Sport to intervene on this matter. The Cape Town Stadium is for SOCCER and the development of the game, not for leisure of the white monopoly capital.
