First of all I must say that after the first e-mail with the names, I got another on which said:
"I have just checked with Parliament. The four names below have been selected by the Portfolio Committee. The names will then be debated and confirmed by the National Assembly and then submitted to the President. The President will make the final appointment." So, they have not been appointed yet. Officially. As for their biographies, I don't have them to hand. The shortlisted candidates were all interviewed by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee so there was some press comment at that stage. Google (News) might find something. It's important to know the Board members. They are public figures and they should be known. The one I know is Cde Lumko who is a very normal friendly comrade who does not forget to attend branch meetings. I am happy for Cde Lumko, and happy to have him in the SABC Board. It's also good that the board is in full strength now and good that the Board, historically, has stood up to the challenges that faced it and has come through. The Board's authority should be strong as a result, and that is what the SABC needs. The Board must be serene, wise, and when necessary, decisive. This Board can be like that. I hope comrades will give wholehearted support to this Board now. The DA and some "Civil Society" people might try to attack the Board, to quickly try to weaken it again. I hope we will see through such manoeuvres, and throw them off.
