*YCLSA ON HUMAN RIGHTS DAY- LETS PROTECT THE LIBYAN PEOPLE!* *21 MARCH 2011 *
The 21st of March in South African history marks a period in our struggle where the majority of our people were oppressed and subjected to the brutality of the State. Democracy in South Africa was as a result of sacrifice and bloodshed. As the YCLSA we commemorate the thousands of men and women that took to the streets in Sharpville in 1960 to fight against the inhumane draconian, Apartheid system. As the YCLSA we also vehemently condemn the human rights violation in Libya where civilians are butchered by the State. This is a picture which was once a reality on South African Soil. It becomes even more disturbing that institutions which were initially created to protect Human Rights, in this instance the UN Security Council, are now instruments to push agendas of the West. We oppose the dramatic decision taken by Barack Obama a self-proclaimed Human rights and Democracy champion to back calls for international Military action in Libya; this is also supported by France and Britain. This affirms that within the G8 we have a group of terrorists and thugs which have military control of the world for their narrow interests. As the YCLSA we believe that South Africa’s priority in Libya should be to protect the people of Libya and ensure that the territorial sovereignty of Libya should be respected. As we celebrate Human Rights day we should remember the millions of South Africans that have no inclination of what of Human rights are, as they are subjected to poverty daily and have no access to basic services. As we move towards local government elections we should intensify our campaign for an overwhelming victory for an ANC Led Alliance government especially in the Western Cape, where the majority of our people are still prejudiced along racial lines. *Issued by the YCLSA Head Office* *Contact* *Gugu Ndima* *National Spokesperson* *076 783 1516 * -- Gugu Ndima +27 76 783 1516 -- Gugu Ndima +27 76 783 1516 -- You are subscribed.
