Yes, I did read what Cde Deputy President said, and the generalisation that he made.
Of course I do not agree with that kind of remark whether it is from the Deputy President or anybody else. Because the Deputy President's remark has two meanings. It also means that all whites are the same, and it means that they are all insincere. It means that there is no difference between the whites who struggled against apartheid and those that did not. It means that many people who are as far as I am concerned heroes, are being disrespected by the Deputy President when he makes a remark like that. It means that whites, young or old, who would like to join the struggle now, can expect no recognition, but only to be lumped together with the most reactionary whites. Yet we in the movement should all be doing everything in our power to encourage whites to join the struggle for the future of South Africa and its full human development. We should not be discouraging them. Everything about political leadership applies among whites just as much as it applies among blacks. You do not insult the people you wish to lead. The Deputy President's remark is not even true in the literal sense because there are also plenty of whites who supported apartheid then *and still do*, without any shame. The Deputy President did not invent the trite remark about all whites pretending they never not supported apartheid. It came up in the media somewhere long ago. The Deputy President just repeated it and he made a mistake to do so. It is not to his credit and it adds no truth to this untrue statement, which was originally some kind of poor joke in the bourgeois media, to treat it seriously. It is just an insult.
