*CWU STATEMENT ON SWAZI DEVELOPMENTS* * *
*12 April 2011* In view of the brutality of Police forces against the Swazi people seeking democracy in Swaziland, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) calls upon the African National Congress (ANC), South African Government, United Nations (UN) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to intervene. CWU is impressed by the Swazi trade unions, progressive alliances and ordinary masses that went all out seeking what belongs to them, which is democracy and freedom. The working class must intensify this struggle and ensure that King Mswati succumbs to the popular demands of the people of Swaziland. Chairman Mao said; *“Revolutions and revolutionary wars are inevitable in a class society, and without them it is impossible to accomplish any leap in social development and to overthrow the reactionary ruling classes and therefore impossible for the people to win political power”.* We urge these freedom fighters to be motivated by Chairman Mao’s words by keeping the fire burning until freedom is attained in that country. Swazi people must know that the world and African countries are with them in this trying and difficult time. King Mswati must do the honourable thing by relinquishing executive powers and allow the masses of Swaziland to go to polls and elect their leader. The days of monarchy and permanent state of emergency are over. We urge the Mswati regime to release all leaders that are arrested before Swaziland implodes. * * *Issued by Communication Workers Union (CWU)* * * *Contact:* * * *Matankana Mothapo, National Spokesperson - 0827590900* -- You are subscribed.
