they are instructed by their handlers from above such as the general, mnister
and ultimately the president who tunes everything from above as the head of the
state. Who takes instruction from the anc which is lagerly in service of
capitalist system. as the conditions of the working class detoriates more, it
is only logical that the state becomes even muderous in dealing with the
working class and this can not be solemely blamed to the police who carried the
ultimate act of killing, but the system and all those manages it.

YCLSA Statement on police brutality

14 April 2011

The Young Communist League of South Africa (Ufasimba) is extremely shocked by
the senseless brutality and killing of legitimate service delivery protester in
Ficksburg. We are of the view that this is partly informed by a move of
“militarisation” which has transformed police into a bunch of private army that
is only accountable to the General. Police must work with the community for the
protection of community. They must never be feared by community, as YCLSA we
call upon both the Police minister comrade Nathi Mthethwa and Police General
Comrade Bheki Cele to investigate and end this Police lunacy.

Not long ago we witnessed the gruesome killing of comrade Jabulani ‘Mjay’
Kubheka (the District Chairperson of the YCLSA in Ladysmith) by Mr Bhekamaswazi
Shabalala (a police officer) who gunned him down with five bullets. We have
learned that this police officer from whom the people of South Africa derive
expectation of protection and security had to go astray and murder one of the
very citizens he is supposed to protect and in the spare of the moment he was
unchained on R2000 bail. We view this occurrence as a perpetration of public
view on police brutality.

We wish to categorically say that the murder of comrade Mjay robed us of a
radical and straightforward cadre whose commitment to the upliftment of the
lives of the poor and the exploited working class was unquestionable.

We do not want to mention the brutality which is faced by unarmed students in
Universities every year. The harassment and humiliation suffered by our former
National Chairperson, Comrade David Masondo is one of the despicable acts by
police.

Without exaggerating, we are of the view that if we do not act decisively
against police who confused their role with that of action movie stars while on
duty, we shall soon be a Police state.

Our condolences to the family, friends and the community, he died fighting for.
