Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Mouse up Zille’s jeans

  Saturday Star

Little mouse has a field day up Zille’s bell-bottom jeans

Carien du Plessis, Saturday Star, Johannesburg, 23 April 2011

A field mouse up her bell-bottom jeans was the last thing DA leader Helen
Zille expected to go wrong when she went on a campaign walkabout in Seshego,
ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema’s home town.

The mouse must have been attracted to her blue DA-branded sneakers. He made
for her leg while she was on walkabout in the Polokwane township on Thursday,
surrounded by about 200 supporters.

As there was no private place where she could take off her jeans, Zille had to
bite the bullet and go about her business as if nothing was the matter:

“I was about to do an interview with SABC television when I felt there was
something in my jeans. It ran up and down my leg. I tried to catch it from the
outside, but… it nipped me in the groin.”

She did the interview and then posed for some Sunday Times pictures.

In the car she asked people to surround it so she could take off her jeans,
but some kept peering in.

In Polokwane, Zille slipped into a toilet cubicle.

"I took off my jeans and it leaped out, giving me a hell of a fright. It was a
little specked field mouse.”

Zille said DA acting provincial director Lindy Wilson helped her save the
mouse and set it free in the garden.
