The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has welcomed the Premier Soccer League's decision to postpone Sunday's match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs by an hour. Numsa requested that the match be delayed to let soccer fans join Workers' Day celebrations. The union’s Castro Ngobese said in a statement soccer players and sports journalists will also be denied the opportunity to join festivities organised by the Congress of South African Trade Unions if the game took place. Kick-off was scheduled for 3pm at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria but the game will now start at 4pm. PSL chief operating officer Professor Ronnie Schloss confirms that "the fixture has been delayed in agreement with the union and the teams concerned. A compromise was reached in agreement with the league and all parties concerned." In a statement, Numsa said "this decision by all the affected parties is a reflection of sober and cool-headed leadership at the helm of our domestic league. This decision further affirms that soccer in our country belongs to the workers." - Sapa Use your mobile phone to find news in a flash at www.sabcnews.mobi -- You are subscribed.
