![]() Fedusa hails Nzimande’s SETA court order Union federation is pleased after labour court judges Services Seta appointments to be unlawful The Federation of Unions of South African (Fedusa) says today that it is "elated" that the Labour Court has ruled Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande’s appointing a new Services Sector and Education and Training Authority (Services Seta) constitution and council were unlawful. Labour Court judge Annelie Basson ruled Nzimande’s appointment of former African National Congress office bearer Sihle Moon as chairman of the Services Seta and Moon’s suspension of the Seta’s CEO Ivor Blumenthal were unlawful. Blumenthal and the Seta council Nzimande replaced last month — when he appointed a new council that included Nolwande Mantashe, the wife of African National Congress secretary general Gwede Mantashe — applied to have his decisions overturned. "Fedusa initially expressed concern regarding proposals to elect a new Services Seta chairperson earlier this year, however concern quickly turned to disbelief as the Minister chose to ignore organised labour and continue proceedings," said Fedusa chief negotiator in the National Economic Development and Labour Council labour market chamber Leon Grobler. Grobler was one of the applicants listed in court papers. Judge Basson handed down judgment this morning.
