*NUMSA INVITES THE PUBLIC AND MEDIA TO A PUBLIC SEMINAR* *05 May 2011* The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) invites the public and the media to a *PUBLIC SEMINAR* on *“BEYOND THE DEVELOPMENTAL STATE”* to be addressed by Prof *BEN FINE*, a renowned Marxist scholar and Political Economist scheduled for *TODAY* *Thursday 05 May 2011*, Vincent Mabuyakhulu Conference Centre, 155 Cnr Bree and Gerard Sekota Streets, Newtown, Johannesburg, Gauteng province. Prof *BEN FINE* is a Professor of Economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He has written widely on the developmental state and has a long involvement in policy-formulation by the democratic movement. In addition to his work on South Africa’s mineral-energy complex (MEC), Prof. Fine was a member of the Macro-Economic Research Group (MERG) which had the responsibility to develop a post-apartheid South Africa macro-economic framework. In the 1990s, Professor Fine did work for NUMSA on restructuring the country’s steel industry and Iscor in particular. He will talk on why the working class must look beyond the developmental state while it continues to fight for it.
