The Times Malema condemns Bin Laden's killing Killing 'not the way to combat terrorism' Moipone Malefane and Amukelani Chauke, The Times, Johannesburg, 6 May 2011 ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has condemned America's killing of al-Qeada leader Osama bin Laden and said killing people was not the way to combat terrorism. Malema told reporters in Pretoria yesterday that Osama's death would not resolve terrorism. "I don't know if killing of people is a solution. I have a problem with America, they are untouchable. "We don't support Osama's actions, but that's a loss of a life," Malema said. President Barack Obama told the world on Monday morning that American troops had killed Bin Laden in Pakistan. "I will not be proud to announce someone's death . coming from such a charismatic leader with a Noble peace prize," Malema said. He said America killed Iraq president Saddam Hussein, claiming he had weapons of mass destruction. "Here were are, where are the weapons? Bush senior and junior are enjoying themselves. "If that had happened in Africa, we will hear of dictatorship. Even innocent people were killed in Iraq. "If it was any African president who had ordered the attack on Iraq, today they will have been hauled before the International Court in Netherlands," he said. "I say what I like, I'm not a diplomat working in government," said Malema. He also praised former president Thabo Mbeki's economic vision for Africa, and called on the government to invest in the continent. "This role played by China in Africa, we think we have got capacity to play that role. "We think SAA, Airports Company of South Africa, Telkom, SABC and many institutions of our state should start to go outside South Africa, and not go and colonise African countries, but go out there to help African brothers to intensify their economies. "Also out of that, we will make some money, because we are not in a programme of charity," said Malema. "We were almost there under president Mbeki, who had a very clear economic vision for Africa, who had a very clear political vision in terms of political leadership of Africa and we don't have to do away with that programme. "The South African government should intensify that work of investing outside this country," said the youth league leader. Malema also said the government had to pay public servants such as teachers and the police better to intensify its fight against corruption.
