Media Release
13th May 2011

Killing other people is an anti-social behaviour

POPCRU has noted the unpleasant incident which occurred at the Harrismith
Magistrate Court in which two Police Officers were shot on duty and a civilian
shot dead. And five suspects escaped from lawful arrest and only four were
rearrested.

One Police Officer later died from the gun shot and one is still under
observation in hospital. It is unlettered to have people who still harbor
ambition to undermine the rights of other people to life.

POPCRU condemns such barbaric acts and call upon members of the community to
assist the police with information for the re-arrest of the one suspect at
large. Occupational Safety is an imperative that South African Police Services
must re-priorities to curb such similar incidents occurring again.

We extend our condolences to the families of all affected victims of this
horrific experience.
