* * *CWU Rejects TFMC’s offer!!!*
* * * * *25 May 2011* The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has today 25 May 2011 served the Total Facilities Management Company (TFMC) with a notice in terms of Labour Relations Act No. 66 of 1995 (as amended) about its intention to embark on an intensive strike action. The strike action has been prompted by the dispute over wage increment emanating from the previous financial year i.e. 2010/2011. This action which will be taking place in more than 20 work stations across the length and breadth of the country will commence on Wednesday 1 June 2011 with a complete withdrawal of labour by over 400 CWU members. As the situation currently stands, the parties in dispute have a difference of *1%* as the union’s compromised demand is *8%* across the board whilst the company’s offer is *7%*. Although, this difference is insignificant, CWU has progressively moved from its *15%* original position to where it stands now against the TFMC’s movement from its original *4%* to where it is now. Given the substantial moves the union has made through-out the negotiating process to the point where the parties ended in a dispute, the members of CWU within the company gave a firm mandate to the negotiators that the current position should be pursued at all costs and against all odds. We therefore, even at this late moment, still want to state categorically and unambiguously clear that the National Office Bearers (NOB) of CWU are willing to intervene in this matter by engaging with the company at the highest level possible to break the impasse.
