*COMMUNICATION WORKERS UNION (CWU) COLLECTIVE BARGAINING CONFERENCE DECLARATION*
* * *01 June 2011* * * We, delegates of Communication Workers Union (CWU), representing thousands of members in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sector: 1. Having met in Braamfontein, Gauteng Province on the 27th – 28th May 2011 to deal with Collective Bargaining issues under the theme *Advance the Fight for Sustainable Jobs and Smash Labour Brokering*; 2. Having observed the systematic pursuance of the neoliberal agenda in the form of voluntary severance packages, retrenchments, erosion of benefits and conditions of employment, coupled with gross abuse in the form of casual labour which has in recent years become a feature of employment in the ICT industry; 3. Having noted that the apartheid era salary discrepancies still exist and that CWU has a role and responsibility to ensure that there is pay parity for members doing the same job and that interventions by various institutions to address anomalies and the never ending increase of the wage gap did not yield any positive results; 4. Having noted that labour brokering deprives our members of employment security, benefits that permanent workers enjoy and stability required to take long term decisions; Hereby declare that: 5. * We shall galvanise our members in the ICT industry to challenge the logic of capital by a concerted and relentless struggle for a living wage, decent work and employment security*. *6. **We shall engage companies in the ICT industry around the following demands:* 6.1 15% salary increase across the board; 6.2 Indefinite moratorium on retrenchments; 6.3 All substantive agreements to be re-aligned to the period of operations starting from the 1st July of every year and ending on the 30thJune of the following year. Companies which are still using the 1st of April to the 31st March period of operations the following year should enter into a 15 months agreement to adhere to this re-alignment; 6.4 Housing Allowance to be increased to R2500,00 without any conditions; 6.5 There should be equal gain sharing irrespective of one’s position or level. 6.5 All companies should correct salary disparities by applying the principle of ‘Equal pay for equal work of the same value’; 6.6 Medical Aid: 6.6.1 Companies should contribute two thirds; 6.6.2 Capping on the contribution should be removed; 6.6.3 Post-retirement medical aid should be restored. 6.7 Companies to be engaged around parental rights of employees. 7. We call on all our members to continue vigorously with a campaign on the immediate annihilation of casualisation and banning of labour brokers on a continuous basis until a decisive victory is won. * * *Issued by CWU:* * * *Matankana Mothapo, National Spokesperson - 0827590900* -- You are subscribed.
