Media Statement 12th June 2011 POPCRU resumes its 07th National Congress in Bloemfontein tomorrow The power of the working will be in display as Police Officers, Correctional Officials and Traffic Officers resumes their parliament from the 13-16th June 2011 at the University of Free State, Bloemfontein. Almost 1 200 delegates are expected to attend the Congress which will include representatives from Netherlands, Botswana, Swaziland, Zambia, Lesotho, London, Mauritius, Namibia, Malawi ,Zimbabwe and many others. Many issues will be deliberated impacting on workers within the Criminal Justice, including; · Total rejection of re-militarization of police services, · Enhancing employment of people with disabilities in government departments, · Vigorous implementation of Women Empowerment Programmes within the Union and the departments we are organizing, · Acceleration of House Ownership for public servants in general through the proposed Housing Scheme in the Public Service Bargaining Council substantive demands by Labour · Eradication of suicides amongst the Police Officers in particular, and · Alignment of Department of Correctional Services according to Constitutional boundaries and eradicate the status quo. · Consolidation of Unionization of Security Services in Southern African Development Community [SADC] The Congress will be addressed by ANC President and SACP General Secretary on the first day. And COSATU General Secretary will deliver a message of support on the second day.
