Media Release 16th June 2011 Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union 07th National Congress Election Results released on the 16th June 2011 by the Election Agency tasked to monitor the election process The 07th National Congress, as the Supreme Body of the organization was convened in terms of POPCRU’s Constitution in terms of Chapter Section 4, Section 10, and Sub--Section 10.1, which says the Congress shall be composed of National Office Bearers, Heads of Departments, National Gender Coordinators and Representatives from each Province of the Union. And 07th National Congress follows the 06th National Congress which was held in 2007 at Cape Town, Western Cape. The National Congress has duly complied with all the provisions of Sub-Section 10.2 informing a quorum after the Credentials presented on the first day were duly adopted, without any shadow of doubt. The Parliament of Workers was tasked to assess progress registered in the period under review, evaluate the challenges the organization met and resolved to continue to consolidate working class power within the criminal justice in particular and the entire society at large. The following National Office Bearers were duly elected after all positions were un-contested; · The President-Cde Zizamele Cebekhulu from Mpumalanga · Deputy President-Cde Nkosinathi Mabhida from Kwazulu-Natal · 1st Vice President-Cde Thandi Shimange from Limpopo · 2nd Vice President-Cde Bonny Marekwa from Northern Cape · General Secretary-Cde Nkosinathi Theledi from Gauteng · Deputy General Secretary-Cde Lebogang Phepheng from North west · National Treasurer-Cde Themba Matsane from Mpumalanga POPCRU will ensure that the membership are re-introduced to the newly leadership to all structures, to continue to consolidate Working Class Power within the Criminal Justice as per the Congress Theme.
