Media Statement 06th July 2011 POPCRU on OSD for Student Correctional Officials POPCRU has registered another Dispute victory on ensuring that quality living standards of our membership is enhanced. We challenged the Department of Correctional Services as the Employer on non-implementation of Clause 12.2 of a signed Resolution No.2/2009 under the auspices of GPSSBC, which stipulates that “ring-fenced Student Correctional Officials’ Benefits would be protected for officials who were in the employ of the Department prior to the implementation date of the Occupational Specific Dispensation”, who are to benefit the same way as other officials who were employed within the Department before the 01st of July 2011. This Clause was to ensure that all Student Correctional Officials, who were undergoing basic training during the implementation of OSD for Correctional Officials do not lose out on the benefits as provided for by the Agreement and the Arbitrator who heard the arguments during the Arbitration agreed with us and delivered a favourable Award on behalf of our membership. This matter took a long time to be resolved due to long dispute resolving processes and we will further engage the Employer to implement as per the Award, as part of putting into action POPCRU’s 07th National Congress Resolutions, to enhance sound Labour Relations milieu within DCS for the benefit of the entire membership. Further agreements on how to handle Entry Level of Officials has been agreed upon.
