*YCL Disgusted by Pick and Pay’s contemplate retrenchment*
July7, 2011 The Young Communist League of South Africa [Ufasimba] notes with the outmost disgust the contemplated retrenchments of 3000 workers by Pick n Pay. Their CEO and senior management has been taking hundreds of millions in bonuses whilst workers share of their income has been greatly reduced. They claim that 65% of their income goes to staff wages. This is a blatant lie because management has been siphoning millions in bonuses while the workers are living below the breadline. The YCL will join forces with SACCAWU and COSATU in fighting to save these jobs. Whatever action that SACCAWU takes on this matter the YCL will be fully behind it, as we feel that this is an onslaught on the working class and the poor. The private sector has done everything in their powers to reverse our governments' efforts to reach their target of 4 million jobs by 2014 though their desire to maximize profits and deepen inequalities and poverty.
