Subject: NUMSA CALLS FOR THE IMMEDIATE ARREST OF LOCKERS ENGINEERING COMPANY
OWNER FOR SHOOTING AT STRIKING WORKERS!

*NUMSA CALLS FOR THE IMMEDIATE ARREST OF LOCKERS ENGINEERING COMPANY FOR
SHOOTING AT STRIKING WORKERS!*

*Friday 8 July 2011*

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) calls for the
immediate arrest of Lockers Engineering Company owner based in Krugersdorp,
for shooting at striking protesters outside the company’s premises.

One of the injured workers is in a critical condition at the Leratong
Hospital, whilst the other is in a stable condition. We wish the two workers
a speedy recovery.

NUMSA demands an immediate arrest of the owner for his barbaric act with an
intention to kill to be arrested and face the full might of the law. We must
guard against workers being suppressed through the barrel of the gun by
untransformed racist bosses.

NUMSA calls on its members and sympathizers to resist the temptation to
destroy public property or intimidate non-striking workers as they agitate
their wage grievances to the filthy rich and greedy employers. Such actions
only serve to shift focus from our legitimate demands for a living wage and
improved conditions of employment.
