LIVING WAGE*

The NATIONAL UNION OF METALWORKERS OF SOUTH AFRICA (NUMSA) representing 120
000 workers in the engineering and other related sectors will be marching
tomorrow *TUESDAY 12 JULY 2011*, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal province.

This march forms part of the organisational strategy to exert pressure to
the greedy and selfish engineering profiteers to accede to workers demands
for a living wage and improved conditions of employment.

The march will be led by COSATU General Secretary - *ZWELINZIMA VAVI*, NUMSA
General Secretary - *IRVIN JIM*, NUMSA President - *CEDRIC GINA*, and other
leaders drawn from the Alliance structures in the province.

The workers will converge at King Dinizulu statue, Cnr Berea and Warwick
Avenue, Durban, starting at 9H00am, and they march through the streets of
the CBD to hand-over a Memorandum of Demands to SEIFSA at the Durban City
Hall.

This march will be taking place amidst intimidation, harassment and assault
of our members by South African Police Services (SAPS). Since our industrial
action began last Monday 4 July 2011, it has exposed the clandestine abuse
of state organs by the ruling class to muzzle and deny workers their
constitutional right to assemble and embark on a protected industrial strike
action. This march will send a strong warning to the ruling class that
workers are not blind and their refuse to be subjected to the old apartheid
police provocation and bully tactics of trampling upon their rights.

The details of the march are as follows:

*DATE: Tuesday 12 July 2011*

*TIME: 9H00am*

*VENUE: King Dinizulu statue (opposite Durban Christian Centre), Durban*

Members of the media are hereby invited to attend and report.
