*Malema attacked over nationalisation - ANCYL * *SAPA, News24, Johannesburg, 25 July 2011*Johannesburg - ANC Youth League president Julius Malema is under attack because he is pushing for the nationalisation of mines and land expropriation without compensation, the organisations said on Monday.
"The ANCYL is fully aware that all these allegations are an attempt to divert our attention from the issues we are raising, particularly on nationalisation of mines and expropriation of land without compensation," said youth league secretary general Sindiso Magaqa said at a media briefing at Luthuli House on Monday.
"These are issues we will continue to raise without fear or favour and we will never retreat because victory is certain."
*Malema's business dealings*Treasurer general Pule Mabe was adamant that Malema was a private citizen and was within his rights to have business dealings.
The trust reported in the City Press was not a secret and was used, in the main, to fund charitable causes.
Magaqa challenged anyone who thought there was any wrong-doing committed on Malema's part, to report it to the authorities.
"... and if there are suspicions of wrong-doing every citizen has a right to bring that to the attention of law-enforcement agencies," he said.
Mabe said Malema was not the only trustee but declined to name the others.Malema did not attend the media briefing, called specifically to answer questions about the trust.
Mabe and Magaqa lambasted the media for pushing the agenda of their "white right-wing" bosses.
On Sunday, the City Press reported that Malema was the sole trustee of a secret family trust, registered in the name of his 5-year-old son, which he allegedly uses to finance his lavish lifestyle.
*Lavish lifestyle*This emerged a week after reports that Malema was building a R16m house in Johannesburg's upmarket Sandown suburb. Responding to the reports last week, Malema said how he funded his lavish lifestyle was nobody's business.
According to the City Press, the Ratanang Family Trust was registered at the Office of the Master of the High Court in Pretoria in 2008, just weeks after Malema was first elected president of the youth league.
Citing two "independent, well-placed sources with knowledge of Malema's financial dealings", City Press says the trust is being used "by the youth leader and his benefactors" to fund his lifestyle.
"Thousands of rands" are deposited into the account on a regular basis, says the report, quoting the sources.
"Frequent deposits are being made from different banks, especially in Limpopo."
City Press said Malema had denied that the trust was being used to launder illicit funds, but "declined to divulge its purpose or bank balance".
The league leadership failed to respond to questions on whether it will take legal action against the paper, despite being asked several times.
