*YCL welcomes the announcement of the NHI* ** The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] welcomes the long anticipated government’s announcement of the National Health Insurance today. It was our South African Communist Party which was amongst the first organisations to campaign for Quality Healthcare for all which called for amongst others the introduction of the National Health Insurance which will guarantee access to quality healthcare to all South Africans. The announcement of NHI Green Paper by our government mark a big step in reversing efforts by the capitalist classes in the private health sector to defeat or undermine government`s efforts towards the establishment of the NHI. We call upon the SACP to continue with it program of Red izimbizo and ensure that our people discuss the NHI and properly understand it. We also call upon our government to improve the quality of our public hospitals, incentivize hard working health practitioners, train and develop healthcare professionals and improve their salaries. If we do not improve all these areas, our victory will be reversed by strikes and lack of professionalism in our public hospitals in particular.
